Express Entry

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is Canada’s main online system for managing permanent residence applications from skilled workers. It uses a points-based ranking (CRS) to invite the strongest candidates to apply for permanent residence. How the process works - Two stages: 1. You create an online profile and enter the pool if you’re eligible. 2. The Government of Canada invites top-ranked candidates to apply for permanent residence. - Programs covered: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Draws may also target specific occupations or French-speaking candidates.

Typical timeline: Processing is often around 6 months or less. - Key steps for you: Check if you qualify for one of the Express Entry programs. Take language tests and, if needed, get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). Create and submit your Express Entry profile. Wait for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) based on your CRS score. If invited, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence, which can lead to a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).

Who can qualify for Express Entry?

You may be eligible if you: - Have skilled work experience (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3) - Meet minimum language requirements - Have completed secondary or post‑secondary education - Have enough settlement funds - Meet specific rules of at least one program (FSWP, FSTP, or CEC)
